Umalusi Approves Release of 2024 NSC Results
South Africa’s national education quality assurance body, Umalusi, has officially approved the release of the November 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results. These results are set to be released later today, marking an important milestone in the country’s academic calendar.
Quality Assurance Backed by Rigorous Standards
Speaking on Monday, Umalusi Council Chairperson, Yunus Ballim, emphasized the meticulous process leading to the approval of the results. “The approval statements bring together decisions taken after careful consideration of available evidence by various role players at different stages of Umalusi’s quality assurance cycle,” he explained.
Ballim noted that the approval for releasing the results confirms that all assessments—across schools, adult education centres, and technical and vocational education and training colleges—met the required standards for all qualifications examined during this period.
Standardisation: A Key Step in the Process
A critical component of quality assurance is the standardisation of examination results. Ballim highlighted that this task was conducted by the Assessment Standards Committee (ASC) of the Umalusi Council.
“During its standardisation meetings, the ASC conducted careful analysis of the results for over 500 subjects, spread across four assessment bodies and qualifications, to arrive at standardisation decisions,” Ballim explained. “The process is detailed and rigorous, guided by principles supported by numerical evidence and narrative reports.”
No Irregularities Reported
Umalusi expressed satisfaction that the examinations were conducted without any incidents that could have compromised their integrity. Ballim confirmed, “We are extremely pleased that no cases of paper leakages or other irregularities were detected. This reflects the outstanding work done by examining bodies and related role players.”
He also extended gratitude to the State Security Agency for ensuring the safe handling of question papers during printing, packaging, and storage.
Celebrating the Class of 2024
Ballim congratulated the Matric Class of 2024 for their achievements. He also recognized the contributions of teachers, parents, guardians, and all who supported the learners, including school staff, transport providers, and community members.
“To those learners who have not succeeded, please do not give up. Work harder, and you will do better in this year’s examinations. For guidance on choosing a credible institution to improve your results, visit Umalusi’s website to avoid falling victim to bogus institutions,” he advised.
Commitment to Education
Reaffirming Umalusi’s dedication to education, Ballim said, “Nobody doubts what we do in the service of every single young person in this country who chooses to walk the path of building their lives through education. The best service we can provide is a certificate with unquestionable credibility.”
Marking and Candidate Statistics
The marking process for the NSC examinations began on 27 November 2024, involving over 50,000 markers. Ahead of the exams, statistics showed that more than 727,000 full-time candidates and approximately 155,215 part-time candidates were registered for the 2024 NSC examinations.
As South Africa awaits the official release of the results, the nation stands united in celebrating the hard work, resilience, and dedication of its learners and educators.
